"iwillteachyoutoberich" Book Comment

Tonight I received an email from an associate of Ramit Sethi (of www.iwillteachyoutoberich.com fame, and whose sound advice is second to none) requesting permission to use one of my blog comments in Ramit's upcoming personal finance book. Although I am ecstatic about being included in the book and completely excited for Ramit, I must admit that I am somewhat envious of Ramit's book deal here. As an up-and-coming writer myself (on personal finance in addition to my academic work), I look forward to the day when my first book gets published. I can't help but wonder if it will be a fascinating and relevant book on personal finance or instead an academic treatise on the mind/body problem and the theological problem of divine action (Ph.D. dissertation topic, FYI). In any case, the writing and researching marches on, towards that blessed day when I also sign my first book deal. For now I will humbly make do with a meager (albeit witty) comment in Ramit's new book. If you are curious, here is the comment in question, full of tried and true advice for any of you college students out there:

"I racked up a quite large credit card balance when I was an undergrad. Here are a few things I wish I had learned a little earlier:

1) Credit cards are not for Amazon.com

2) Credit cards are not for fast food

3) Credit cards are not for internet porn (or so I hear…)

4) Credit cards are not for gasoline

I am still paying off my original balance for all this garbage."
